HOW TO INSTALL AN AR-15 BARREL

First, you'll need to gather the appropriate tools. These include an upper receiver fixture, a barrel nut wrench head, a torque wrench, and a gas tube alignment tool. Many people skip the step of aligning their gas tube, but this can cause problems down the road. You'll also want to make sure all of your parts and tools are clean before you begin.

You'll want to slip the barrel inside the upper receiver and then thread on the barrel nut. You'll want to tighten down the nut thoroughly. The goal here is to have the barrel and the upper be snug together. Next, you'll want to align the gas tube within the upper receiver. This is critical for accuracy when shooting.

The goal is for the gas tube to be able to move freely within the upper receiver. This is when having a gas tube alignment tool is helpful. You'll want to remove the bolt from the bolt carrier group and put the tool inside. You then put this into the upper receiver. If you have it aligned properly, there will be a gap around the tube. This allows the gas tube to move freely in all directions. Any contact in the gas tube can displace the carrier, which adversely affects performance.

You'll also want to have a well-greased barrel inside the upper receiver in order to reduce friction and wear and tear.
