In a previous blog post, we took a look at how to install an AR-15 barrel. Today, the team at RailScales will examine how to install an AR-15 gas tube for your custom AR build.

RailScales offers the best AR-15 rail grips on the market today. We began in 2014 with the singular goal to design a rail cover that will attach easier and stay, that will protect the shooter's hands from the heat of the barrel while firing, and that will offer a better grip. We've succeeded, engineering the best rail covers made from G10 fiberglass composite material that is super thin and comes in different colors to suit your tastes. Easy to install and a great rail grip, you'll be hard pressed to find a better, more affordable option. Below, we'll take a look at how to install an AR-15 gas tube. HOW TO INSTALL AN AR-15 GAS TUBE

Ideally your gas tube is already set up in the gas block for the previous steps. Here, alignment is everything, and it's crucial that you get it right. You need to align the small gas hole that is present on the barrel with the small hole on the gas tube. Most high-quality AR-15 barrel manufacturers provide dimples near the bottom of the barrel for the set screws.

If your barrel does not have these "dimples," you can mark the gas hole on the barrel and the one on the block with a pencil and then make sure they are lined up. Once aligned, you'll want to use some sort of adhesive to ensure that the screws near the gas block can stay in place and withstand the recoil of your AR-15. If the gas tube and block are not aligned, your AR-15 will not cycle, and you'll have to dismantle the system and start again. You can also use a gas tube alignment tool to assist with the alignment process.

Proper Gas Tube Installation Matters

In the end, you want to ensure that the gas tube can rattle and move freely within the barrel. This ensures that there is no contact in the gas tube, which then could displace the carrier and affect your firing precision.

These are small, precise steps that overall do not take long, but in the long run are crucial for the correct operation of your AR-15. Since you probably purchased your AR-15 component parts so you could customize your gun and so you could shoot your AR-15, taking a bit extra time to ensure this step is correct can make all the difference.
